Step into the wild with us for a full day of immersive, hands-on learning at Wild Wisdom Workshop Day! Join a vibrant community of nature lovers, herbalists, foragers, and skill-seekers as we explore ancestral knowledge and deepen our connection to the natural world.

You’ll choose from a variety of 2.5-hour workshops led by experienced instructors in a beautiful outdoor setting. Whether you’re just starting out or deepening your practice, there’s something for everyone—including engaging activities for kids!

Schedule:

  • 8:30 – 9:15 AM: Parking & Registration
  • 9:15 – 9:30 AM: Welcome & Orientation (consider an icebreaker)
  • 9:30 – 12:00 PM: Morning Workshop
  • 12:00 – 1:30 PM: Lunch Break/Community Time (storytelling around the fire pit)
  • 1:30 – 4:00 PM: Afternoon Workshop
  • 4:00 – 4:30 PM: Optional Closing & Goodbye

Whether you come for the wild foods, herbal crafts, or the chance to foray through new land, you’ll leave inspired and empowered. Let’s learn, share, and grow together.

Morning Workshops (9:30am-12:00)

Young Foragers | Egypt Krohn  Perfect for young learners, this course will introduce plant identification with games, examples, and a kids hike to explore with the senses. Caregivers are asked to remain with their children for the workshop.

Wilderness Medicine | Tabitha Corlett  Learn how to handle unexpected trail emergencies while awaiting professional help. This class goes beyond the band-aid! Increase your confidence caring for injury on the trail or anywhere.

Foraged Pantry | Jessica Rossell  Learn about preservation methods and uses for a variety of native MI plants and mushrooms. Taste and sample a selection of recipes made with foraged ingredients. ($5 materials fee for this course)

Nature Journaling | Meagan Kubu  Take time to reflect in nature and get in touch with your creative side. Lower stress with mindfulness. Participants will be provided a journal with prompts for connecting with our wild surroundings and take time to explore their connection to nature.

Mushroom Walk | Jay Zatkovich   Take a walk and learn about how to find and identify edible MI wild mushrooms from a certified MI Wild Mushroom Expert (MDARD). Increase your knowledge and confidence with these fabulous fungi!

Lunch (12:00pm-1:30pm)

Community Time @ the Firepit | Mark Ledebuhr  Time for connection and storytelling, participants and facilitator share stories about the Earth and our connections with the wide and varied expanse that is nature.

Afternoon Workshops (1:30pm-4:00)

Fox Walking, Owl Eyes | Badger Compton  We all have a little wild in us still. Here’s your opportunity to practice soft movement, track animals in their habitat, and learn about how the plants and animals of the forest live together. Don’t miss it!

Plant Walk | Rachel Mifsud  Learn about native MI botany, including plant identification, lookalikes, edibility, and more! Empower yourself to walk confidently with knowledge through our natural spaces.

Tincture Making | Brigette Noel  Learn about a traditional method of plant extraction and take part in each step of the process, from plant selection to bottling. Participants will take home a vial of wild remedy. ($5 materials fee for this course)

Mushroom Log Inoculation | Sarah Chiazza Dionise   Drill, plug, seal and take home your own mushroom log! Plus, learn the process to make more. Mushroom variety TBD. ($10 materials fee for this course)

What to bring:

• Clothing: Wear weather-appropriate attire, sturdy footwear, and consider rain gear. This event will not be cancelled or postponed in case of rain. Safety measures will be taken for inclement weather.

• Foraging Tools: Pocket knife or multi-tool, gathering basket or bag, soft-bristled brush, and a whistle.

• Personal Items: Water bottle, sunscreen, insect repellent, hat, compass or GPS device, and your preferred folding camp chair.

• Lunch: As there is no catered lunch, please bring your own meal or plan to visit nearby eateries during the break. There are local and chain restaurants available in nearby Laingsburg, MI.
